Meteorological Center of Chennai has informed that 14 districts including Nilgiris and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu are likely to experience moderate rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds today (October 12).
Atmospheric circulation is prevailing in the Gulf of Mannar and adjacent coastal areas of South Tamil Nadu. Also, due to the prevailing atmospheric circulation in South Andaman Sea and adjacent areas, a low pressure area is likely to form in Southeast Bay of Bengal on October 13, the Met Office said.
14 rain-prone districts
Thunder, lightning and 40 to 50 kmph gusts at one or two places in Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivagangai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. Moderate rain likely with gusty winds.
Other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to witness light rain with thunder and lightning at a few places.
Public should be alert as thunder, lightning and gusty winds may occur during rain. It is advised to keep an eye out for subsequent weather related announcements.
